New York [USA], Oct. 28 : United State President Barack Obama created a record on Thursday after commuting the sentences of 98 inmates, most of whom were convicted on nonviolent drug charges and 42 of them were facing life imprisonment.

The White House announced that this brings the total number of sentences commuted by Obama during his presidency to 872 individuals, 688 in 2016 alone and more than the previous 11 presidents combined, reports the CNN.

"These are individuals- many of whom made mistakes at a young age - who have diligently worked to rehabilitate themselves while incarcerated," White House Counsel Neil Eggleston wrote in the blog post.

The commutations are part of a White House push to bring existing sentences in line with current standards.

Moscow [Russia], Oct. 28 : Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his opposition to setting a time frame for the signing of a post World War II peace treaty between Russia and Japan.

"This is a case where it is impossible and even harmful, in my opinion, to determine any time limits," Russia's Tass news agency quoted him as saying.

Putin made the remarks at a forum in Sochi, in reply to a question from a Japanese representative who asked if a peace treaty could be signed in the next two, three or four years, reports the Japan Times.

Spat over four Russian-held island which are claimed by the Japanese has prevented the two countries from concluding a postwar peace treaty.

Islamabad [Pakistan], Oct. 28 : Law enforcers laid siege to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's residence late Thursday night as a crackdown was launched against his supporters.

The opposition party responded by announcing nation-wide protests against what it called 'terrorism' of the government, reports the Express Tribune.

Police detained dozens of PTI workers - including women - for violating Section 144 which the administration had imposed yesterday morning. Television footage showed police scuffling with Imran's supporters before bundling them into prison vans and whisking them away.

The move is likely to strengthen the processing of export transactions of taxpayers under GST and increase transparency and reduce human interface.

An electronic bank realization certificate (eBRC) captures transaction level details of foreign exchange realized in India. The eBRC project implemented by DGFT created an integrated platform for receipt, processing and subsequent use of all bank realization related information by the exporters, banks, central and state government departments.
