Study: Pre-drinking, latest fashion among youngsters

Study: Pre-drinking, latest fashion among youngstersRecent study revealed that "pre-drinking" or "pre-gaming" is the latest trend among youngsters. Pre-drinking is defined as the "act of drinking alcohol before you go out to the club to maximize your fun at the club while spending the least amount on extremely overpriced alcoholic beverages."

Lead researcher, Dr. Samantha Wells at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Canada said that pre-drinking is an "intense, ritualized and unsupervised" drinkfest, in many cases perfectly timed so that the booze hits the bloodstream within minutes of stepping inside the bar.

She added that another contributing factor is the "huge gap" between the cost of booze at liquor stores and in bars.

Well also said, "Therefore, we need to look closely at the combined impact of various policies affecting bars and young people's drinking and come up with a more comprehensive strategy that will reduce these harmful styles of drinking among young people."
