Laptop in India for Rs.10K to be launched by QualcommSoon Indian market will see the arrival of a small laptop, dubbed as Kayak, by the U.S. wireless communications company Qualcomm mainly meant for accessing Internet services and carriing a price tag of just Rs. 10,000. It has been learnt that Qualcomm will launch Kayak here in the Q2 of 2009.

“The device leverages 3G chip sets and the main USP is that it could compute in low power conditions like in India,” said the company's Senior Vice-President and India Head Kanwalinder Singh.

“In Kayak prototype, Qualcomm has designed a device that can bring the Internet over cell phone data networks to areas, which may lack wired Internet service from cable and telephone providers,” he added.

Already, the Kayak PC alternative has been launched by the company worldwide.

Kayak will also act as a model for developing low-cost wireless-computing devices, designed with the aim to cover the gap between desktop PCs that require landlines or separate accessories for connectivity and Internet-capable wireless devices. Kayak provides computing and connectivity with the help of Qualcomm's dual-core mobile station modem chipsets.
