Coimbatore, Oct 30 : A practitioner of traditional medicines in Coimbatore on Thursday conducted special prayers to seek the blessings of gods to ensure a smooth victory for Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate in the US Presidential polls.

Krishana Kumar, Managing Director of Dhanwantari Temple said that he was fascinated by Democrat Barack Obama''s campaigning style when he was in America recently.

He got his horoscope, read it carefully and thought of performing some prayers for his victory.

Finding him to be a Black, dynamic, poor and above all a pro-Indian, Kumar wanted Obama to win the presidential elections and voluntarily started the prayers at the Dhanwantari Temple.

"There were few precautions which were suggested as there could be an attempt on his life. Therefore, we started performing `Mritunjaya Homam'' (prayers for longevity and good health of a person) which is a powerful `havan'' (a Hindu ritual performed while praying),” said Kumar.

“Also in his (Obama) job he has to face tense situations and has to undergo a lot of pressure, therefore we started tender coconut `abhishekam'' (prayers to bring peace to the concerned person) for Lord Shiva, which is supposed to reduce his tension," said Kumar.

Kumar''s special prayers would conclude on November 4, which is Obama''s date of birth, to ensure his victory.

Apart from the regular devotees of Dhanwantari temple, many Americans presently in India are also participating in these special prayers offered for Obama''s victory in the presidential race.

"Whereas I have participated in this Puja, we don''t have anything like this in United States. We don''t have anything like Puja or beliefs like you have here. So I feel that this energy will go to Obama and the people in United States. We have to get peace," said Tathiana Patino, a resident of Miami, USA and presently in India.

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama and the Republican candidate John McCain are locked in an electoral battle to the White House.

The candidates need at least 270 votes from the Electoral College to win the November 4 Presidential elections. (ANI)
