V.K. Garg takes over as Chairman of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission

New Delhi, Oct 21: Union Minister of Power Sushil Kumar Shinde today administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr. V. K. Garg as Chairman of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Goa and Union Territories (UTs) except Delhi.

Prior to his appointment in JERC, Dr. Garg held the position of the Chairman and the Managing Director of Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC).

Having begun his career in Indian Economic Service (1973), his career spans a glorious 35 years encompassing, the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Finance, ONGC and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

Dr. Garg holds degrees in MBA, PhD (Business Administration) and MA (Economics) with specialization in Money and Public Finance.

Set up by the Government of India under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003, JERC is responsible for determination of tariff, regulation of electricity purchase and procurement process of distribution licensees, facilitation of intra-state transmission and wheeling of electricity, issuance of licenses to transmission licensees, adjudication upon disputes, enforcement of standards with respect to quality, continuity and reliability of service by licensees.
