WiMax Embedded Laptops Launched
During the global WiMax Exposition-cum-conference in New Delhi, the laptops installed with WiMax were unveiled, which come with Intel chips from computer manufacturers like Lenovo and Asus. The new WiMax embedded laptops are expected to increase the growth of wireless broadband in India at a really fast pace.
After the Department of Telecom announced the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum auction policy, the first Indian WiMax Expo-cum-conference was held.
“The WiMax embedded laptop computers are aimed at extending computing power and connectivity to tertiary towns and hinterland in the country,” informed the Minister of Communications and IT—Thiru A Raja.
The WiMax Forum, in association with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) organized the global WiMax event. In order to ensure that WiMax spectrum is put to best use by the operators to offer next generation Internet services like web casting, video download, music download etc, Raja called upon the WiMax industry.
It was hoped by the Minister that the needs of BPO industry, IT outsourcing industry, BFSI segment, education, tourism, travel and hospitality industries would be efficiently met by the wireless broadband and WiMax.
He further expressed that operators should maintain affordability, accessibility and good quality of service, by making these services reach different segments of the society ie residential, SMB and corporate segment.
Further, it was announced by the WiMax Forum that they are conceptualizing a WiMax Applications Lab at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Since IIT Delhi has a functioning WiMax test bed, it would be a perfect location for the construction of this lab.
This lab, which would be supported by the Indian industry and DoT, would concentrate on increasing WiMax quality of experience and WiMax community services for underserved areas.
