Kanpur (UP), Nov 22 : Three computers have been stolen from the premises of Defence Material Store Research Development and Establishment (DMSRDE), a unit of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), in Kanpur, but the Ministry says that stolen computers did not contain any classified information.

"The computers stolen from DMSRDE were used for routine work and did not contain any classified or secret data," stated a release issued by the Defence Ministry, after news about the theft poured.

On November 20, a case was registered at the Chakeri police station on the complaint lodged by DMSRDE security officer.

DMSRDE Director K U Bhaskar Rao described the incident as very serious since it took place inside a secured zone, but at the same time dismissed any threat to the national security.

"One stolen computer, "Drona," was connected to DRDO Intranet and contains information about DRDO scientists including their phone numbers, addresses, designations and also defence-related research projects they are associated with. The other computers contained software used for sample identification and quality measurement of defence-related products," said Rao.

Police says that the theft was impossible without connivance of an insider.

DMSRDE is involved in several defence-related projects and is basically Science and Technology related laboratory working in the areas on non-metallic materials and textiles.

Its scientists are currently working on development of polymer being used in BrahMos missile. (ANI)
