No Effect Of US Slowdown On Indian Economy: Nath
The global economic and financial fluctuations can hardly affect Indian economy. There are speculations in some quarters that the slowdown in US economy can hit the growth story of India. Indian economy is dependent on US economy by and large. Some prestigious US institutions, such as Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch are facing economic breakdown.
Expressing views on the issue, the commerce minister Mr. Kamal Nath said that the US economic sector is facing serious financial threats and the government is ready to handle the situation. He was here in Delhi to attend the meeting on SEZs and export oriented units (EOUs). He said that the exposure of Asian banks in the US market is quite low as compared to Western countries. Mr. Nath also expressed hopes that India would achieve its target of 40 billion foreign direct investments (FDI). He also expressed hopes that the special economic zone would register 100 percent growth.
It s recalled that the 158-year-old Lehman Brothers lost around $60 billion in the sinking real-estate market and wasdeclared bankrupt following the finical crisis.
