Box Office: RGV’s ‘Phoonk’ Is A Hit!
Finally, ace Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) found the success path with ‘Phoonk’, which turned out to be a surprise package for box office.
More surprisingly RGV’s ‘Phoonk’ fare the best film amongst all other movies released this week including Mumbai Meri Jaan, My Friend Ganesha 2 and Maan Gaye Mughall-e-Aazam.
Regardless of a no-star value Cast, Ramu’s ‘Phoonk’ worked well for its horror kind that isn't much tried in Bollywood industry.
Though RGV resorted to his same old thrill-inducing approaches, which didn't gain him excellent reviews, Phoonk had a much decent viewers as against the other releases of the week.
Produced on a shoestring budget of Rs 3 crore, Phoonk with a Kannadiga hero and a child in a lead role, fared the best, getting off to an unexpected over 85% beginning. The policy of few prints and a self-effacing number of shows has worked well for the stressed film producer.
While Mumbai Meri Jaan just received only 20-30% collections during its opening weekend. However the extremely encouraging reviews that it gathered, it might show some increase in business with a strong positive gossip. Maan Gaye Mughall-e-Azam is the loser with opening day experiencing only a 15-20% occupancy across movie theatres. On the other hand, My Friend Ganesha 2 went unnoticed.
The coming week will see as many as five releases including ‘Rock On’ featuring Javed Akhtar’s loving son Farhan Akhtar and superb star Arjun Rampal.
Sunny Deol is giving his best to guarantee that brother Bobby's ‘Chamku’ gets noticed by all his fans. Ekta Kapoor's C Kkompany comes next in tow. Shiny Ahuja's Hijack isn't looking that hot. And finally, the long delayed Mukhbiir will see a confirmed release on August 29.
