Senate Chairman Soomro leads race for interim PM

Islamabad, Nov 14: Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro is said to have been chosen by President General Pervez Musharraf and senior ruling party leaders for the job of the caretaker Prime Minister, who will take oath of office on November 16.

The News quoted sources as saying that Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and the heads of relevant policymaking bodies had agreed to Soomro’s name as the interim PM at a meeting on Tuesday.

The name of a former NWFP Governor, Commander Khalilur Rehman, was also considered for the post. For the Chief Minister of the Punjab, Justice (retd) Ejaz Nisar’s name has been finalised.

A new Legal Framework Order (LFO) might be issued under the PCO to hold the elections as was done in 2002, sources said, adding that the rules of the game for politicians would also be issued under the new LFO. (ANI)
