London, Nov 11 : A new survey has shed light on the spiritual nature of Britons, revealing that more than 40 percent say prayers, and one in three believes that God is watching over them.

The study, by the Christian charity Tearfund, found that praying made people feel "peaceful and content,” reports the Telegraph.

The survey, which involved 1,000 adults in the UK, revealed that 42 per cent prayed to God, with about one in six praying daily and one in four doing so at least once a week.

The report also showed that 38 per cent felt "peaceful and content" after praying, while 30 per cent said they were strengthened after engaging in the activity.

Top prayer topics in order of popularity were family and friends, thanking God, guidance, and healing and global problems such as poverty, wars and disaster.

A third of adults questioned think that God will answer their prayers, while 12 million believe that prayer can change their own lives or those of their nearest and dearest.

London emerged as the "prayer capital of the UK”, with 73 per cent of adults praying and one in five attending church at least once a month.

Yorkshire and Humberside landed at the bottom of the prayer league table with only 24 per cent saying that they engaged in the activity. (ANI)
