Karnataka to set up 2000 MW thermal plant in Chhattisgarh
The Karnataka government has decided to set up a 2000 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. The state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said that it would be set up in Janjgir district. The state government will acquire 2000 acres of land for the proposed project at Goghna. Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Raman Singh has already given nod to power project.
The project site is well connected to rail and road link. The water is also available from Mahanadi River for power plant. Thus the site is technically fit for the set up of plant.
The Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has requested his Chhattisgarh counterpart Mr. Raman Singh for timely assistance to complete the power project. He also requested him to help in land acquisition plans, water allocation from Mahanadi and clearance from state pollution control board.
Karnataka is facing acute power crisis due to failure of monsoon in the state. The union power ministry has also reduced its share from central pool and transfers it to Andhra Pradesh. The Karnataka chief minister termed this move as unwarranted and illogical. The state government has requested union power minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to restore 290 MW power to state.
