Hyundai Launches New i10 With Its New Eco-Friendly 1.2l Kappa Engine
Hyundai Motor India Ltd launched new i10 powered by 1.2-litre Kappa engine at its plant in Chennai. Hyundai claims that Kappa engine provides greater operational efficiency in both fuel consumption and emission along with great power.
Kappa engine has four cylinders along with 16 valves with 32 bit microprocessor. This gives engine capability to give average of 80PS/5200rpm and 11.4Kgm/4000rpm torque. Moreover it assures comfortable driving in city areas as well as highways.
According to company officials the new engine emits only 119g/km of CO2. An automatic gearbox is combined with the new engine.
The company officials added that the new Kappa engine has been developed over a period of 48 months at a cost of $421 million. This engine is result of hard labor of the technical team of the company.
All the technical faculties of the company were at work to develop this efficient engine. Hyundai claims that the new light weight Kappa engine is unique in terms of its power, performance, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.
Initially it will be launched in three variants in the Magna, Sportz and the Asta .It will have all the features like the sunroof, 2-Din audio system, a unique red pack for the Sportz interiors. Other safety features like anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dual airbags will be embedded in it.
H S Lheem, managing director, HMIL told that Hyundai is working continuously to develop efficient and environment friendly technology. He is quite confident about the excellent qualities of the new engine in terms of fuel consumption and smoke emission.
“Our new Kappa engine is the best in class today, with more power, less fuel consumption and a lower CO2 and overall emissions. The current 1.1L engine has proved to be one of the very successful engines for Hyundai and it will continue to power both the Santro and the i10, but the new Kappa engine will significantly raise the bar in this segment and redefine the expectation from this class of cars,” he affirmed.
