PM Manmohan Singh meets Chinese President Hu Zintao

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghToyako, July 8: On the sidelines of the ongoing G-8 Summit in Japan, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today met Chinese President Hu Zintao. During the meeting, both sides held delegation-level talks.

According to sources, the Chinese President condemned yesterday’s suicide attack on Indian embassy in Kabul in which 41 people were killed and more than 140 injured.

In what is being described as the first attack on any Indian embassy of such magnitude, a suicide bomber rammed his bomb-laden car into the gates of the Indian embassy in Kabul.

Among the dead were four Indians, including Brigadier Ravi Datt Mehta and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer (Counsellor-Political) V. Venkateswara Rao.

Two men of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) - Ajai Pathania and Roop Singh, who were guarding the embassy’s entrance gates at the time of the attack, were also killed in the blast.

Besides, the Chinese President also expressed his happiness and thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for sending relief material to help earthquake victims in China.

A massive quake had hit China on May 12 killing more than 60,000 people. The most affected area was the Sichuan province. (ANI)
