British Conservatives "delighted" with Irish "No" to Lisbon Treaty
London - British Conservative opposition leader David Cameron said Friday he was "delighted" with Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.
Cameron renewed the Conservative call for a referendum in Britain on the treaty, and said it would be the "height of arrogance" if the Labour government pressed ahead with the ratification process.
"The treaty should now be declared dead," said Cameron. "The elite in Brussels has to begin to listen to the people of Europe."
Government officials have indicated that Britain will continue the ratification process, which would be completed shortly. (dpa)
