YouTube integrates Aloud AI dubbing tool for video creators

YouTube has launched an innovative artificial intelligence tool Aloud for video creators to dub their video content in different languages. Aloud has been developed by Google's Area 120 incubator and is undergoing final stages of testing before it will be available for wider user base on YouTube. The feature had been long pending as many content creators were looking for easier ways to reach out of audience wishing to watch videos in their preferred language. Currently, YouTube is working with a limited number of video content creators. The tool currently supports Spanish, Portuguese and English language dubbing of videos.

Google is still testing this tool for YouTube content creators and once the system is foolproof, it would be launched for wider user base. Aloud transcribes the content and video creators can edit or change the transcription. Once the transcription is edited by video creator, the AI-based tool performs dubbing and releases the video in different languages.

Google's Area 120 incubator is working on an advanced version of this tool in which the dub would sound like creator’s voice. This feature will be difficult to implement but it can be a game changer. Imagine how boring it would be, if the dubbing voice was the same for all the videos in a particular language. The feature is still in early stages and Google plans to launch it by 2024. With this innovative feature, YouTube will be able to reach a much wider audience. Additionally, people will be able to access videos posted in different languages. YouTube has been the highest watched video sharing website and with such features, it will surely maintain its leadership position.

Google hasn’t shared enough details about Aloud but it would surely offer much better reach to video content creators. In a video released by Aloud on YouTube, Nolan Karimov, the content creator of Kings & Generals, said, “I always wanted to share my passion for history with the world, but I was limited by language.”

YouTube’s Amjad Hanif said that 100s of video content creators have worked with Aloud team on this project. Hanif is confident that Google will add more languages in near future. This feature won’t put financial burden on video creators. And, Google is planning to keep it easy to use and simple for content creators.

Content creators can visit official page for Aloud (aloud.area120.google.com) and request early access to the feature. During the testing phase, content creators can see how well the tool manages to dub their content.

Talking about the new project, Torie Bates, Program Manager of Applied Digital Skills at Google, informed, “We wanted to expand our applied digital skills curriculum to more countries and languages to help people across the world learn new technology skills.”

There are numerous paid tools available for converting video content into different languages, but some of them can be quite expensive.

Amid a surge in demand, a number of startups are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools to automate and enhance the traditional process of dubbing. This approach ensures accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and speed, leading to the emergence of more opportunities in the field.

UniDub is a platform that enables users to effortlessly convert content from a single language to multiple languages with just a single click. By leveraging AI technology, UniDub synthesizes multilingual content that sounds natural and human-like, while preserving background music, emotions, and style. The idea for UniDub.co originated during the lockdown, when CEO Bharani Yeleswarapu pondered the possibility of enjoying his favorite Korean show in his mother tongue, Telugu. Subsequently, the Vijayawada-based company was established, offering services such as dubbing and custom voices. The process itself is straightforward: users can upload a video with pre-existing subtitles or have them automatically generated. The translated text is then dubbed using the AI engine, and the final product is available for download in under 24 hours.

Dubverse.ai, on the other hand, claims to provide a 10x increase in time efficiency and a 50% cost reduction by incorporating AI and deep learning throughout the entire process. This is particularly relevant in India, where internet access is affordable and the linguistic diversity poses a significant challenge in terms of accessing educational video content. The growing gap between supply and demand in this area is being addressed and compounded by Dubverse.ai's innovative approach.

YouTube’s Aloud will surely make things easier for content creators and people watching content on the video sharing platform.
