Americans Agree 'Distracted Walking' is Serious, But Few Admit They Text while walking
Many people may have advised you not to text when you drive, but have you ever taken an advice regarding text and walk? It may seem a strange issue, but it’s real. Most US people think walking while being on phone is a real and serious problem, according to a survey by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Ipsos Public Affairs.
The survey reported also that many people blamed others for distracted walking without considering their own behavior. According to the survey, people keep their eyes on their phone’s screen instead of looking at the track, and when a collision occurs, they blame others.
Results of the survey showed that more than 75% people claimed distracted walking is a serious problem. About 74% participants said distracted driving is more serious issue than distracted walking. Only 43% individuals in the survey admitted than distracted walking could result into injury, while 50% said distracted walking could be ‘risky’.
The most surprising and funny thing about the survey results is that the participants said over 74% people are always engaged in distracted walking behavior like burying their heads in phone and texting. Only 29% participants agreed that their own habits could be the reason of distracted walking.
The survey stated, “ Only 28% of participants said that they use their phones to text, check email, and play games while walking, but 85 percent reported seeing others do it”. Similarly, just over 35% said they used phone at the same time, but 90% admitted they see other people texting as they walk.
