Coca-Cola claims it Invested $118.6M on Health Research Since 2010
Coca-Cola, the leading beverage company, disclosed its recent investments in health research in the US. The company claimed that it made an investment of $118.6 million on health research over the past five years.
The company is learnt to have recently pledged for funding of more such researches in the coming years and making the interments public. Earlier, the company made a huge investment in a Global Energy Balance Network.
The company’s move, however, is also being tagged as a cover-up exercise for the sugar-rich drinks it has been serving to the world and leaving the consumers obese.
Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent said, “I was disappointed the company's actions created more confusion and mistrust" and vowed to be more transparent. The maker of Sprite, Dasani and Powerade said its effort will start in the U.S., and then expand internationally.”
The company’s President, Sandy Douglas, said that their Endeavour in controlling obesity is being overlooked and hence more steps are being planned to contribute to health.
Douglas also informed that a committee will soon be formed by Coca- Cola that will exclusively work on the health benefit efforts of the company.
In an online post, Coca- Cola executives also posted that since 2010, it has invested $96.8 million on ‘health and well-being partnerships’.
The Company also provided funds to The Obesity Society and the American Diabetes Association and has been closely working with experts who wanted to be anonymous.
