Even Light or Moderate drinking increases Cancer Risk
The British Medical Journal-published study has unveiled that not even light and moderate drinking is good for health. It also increases risk of cancer for both men and women. The findings are based on the assessment of more than 100,000 adults.
Study researchers have clearly found risk for breast cancer. The findings act as a strong message for public that they should limit the amount of their alcohol consumption. There should be days in a week when they do not drink at all.
As per the NHS, men should not have more than to four units a day and women can have two to three units. It shall however, be noted that these guidelines are currently being reviewed and could even be altered.
In the study, the researchers observed the risk of alcohol-related cancer among women. They have found that the risk of breast cancer increased even after an alcoholic drink a day. In the case of men who have never smoked, no significant link was found. Among the men who were current smokers, former-smokers, light or moderate drinking was found to have increased the risk for certain cancers.
Alcohol has been found to increase risk of mouth, throat, gullet, bowel, liver and breast cancer. Smoking and alcohol is the worst combination and both increases cancer risk. All types of alcohol increase cancer risk. Study researchers said that more is the intake, higher is the risk. Reducing the amount of cancer can reduce cancer risk.
