Mother triggers debate on breastfeeding
A mother from Pennsylvania has sparked a debate on breastfeeding. The woman shared a photo, in which she is breastfeeding her 16-month-old baby and an 18-month-old baby of her friend at the same time.
Jessica Anne Colletti posted the image in a Facebook Group named as "Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!" She also shared the entire story at Mama Bean - Unconditional Attachment and with People Magazine.
She told People that a number of people are misled about breastfeeding. She told the magazine that people are told that it's gross bodily fluid, which should not be transferred or shared. She said that it is understandable that if people go for donated breast milk, it should be tested first, however if the mother is known directly and there are no health issues, it is perfectly fine to do so.
According to Colletti, she takes care of her friend's son while she is involved in some work and has been breastfeeding him for a year.
As told by Colletti to Mama Bean - Unconditional Attachment, "Breastfeeding my friend's son came naturally to me. I started babysitting him when he was 5 months old and the first time she dropped him off to me I asked permission to nurse him, since I was already nursing my 3 month old". According to her, her friend had an exciting response, for the reason that the child was having problems with the formula given by his earlier sitter.
