UCLA Health’s Computer Systems Hacked
On Friday, University of California (UCLA) Health has announced that its computer systems have been hacked. Owing to which, data of 4.5 million people could have been exposed. The UCLA Health is working with the FBI and private computer forensic experts to know the complete details of the cyber-attack.
As per the UCLA Health that manages four hospitals in the university's campuses, in May 2014 it has found that the hackers have accessed parts of its computer systems that having personal information, including names, addresses, health plan ID numbers, medical record numbers, dates of birth and other medical information.
In October 2014, the UCLA Health started investigation. UCLA Health was of the view that for now, it is not known that whether or not the hackers have in reality accessed or taken hold of peoples' personal or medical information.
"Because UCLA Health cannot conclusively rule out the possibility that the attackers may have accessed this information, however, individuals whose information was stored on the affected parts of the network are in the process of being notified", affirmed UCLA Health.
UCLA Health has said that it will provide free-identity services to individuals who may have been affected. Dr. James Atkinson, UCLA Health's interim associate vice chancellor and president, has apologized for any impact due to the incident on individuals they serve.
Atkinson said that the UCLA Health has taken important measures to protect data and strengthen its network against any other cyber attack.
