Fletcher Place Dental Clinic works 24/7 to help patients in need

There are so many facilities that are available 24/7. But when it comes to a dental emergency at midnight, there is no facility available at most of the places. In order to tackle this problem, a Fletcher Place dentist has opened dental clinic and according to her, it is the nation's first 24-hour dental clinic. When Dr. Shirley Ferreira founded 24 Hour Dental Care, she looked for emergency dental services on internet. Ferreira found that most of the clinics were not fully staffed.

Ferreira’s clinic has already seen 330 patients in February. She practiced extended-hours dental care, when she was working at a Canton, Ohio, ImmediaDent. That clinic remained open from 9 am to 9 pm. She observed that many people used to come in evening. Moreover, according to a survey, Americans don’t pay attention to dental checkup, until they experience some problem in their tooth.

Ferreira said that it gets busier as the night approaches and people suffering toothache at 7 rush to dental clinics as they are about to close at that time.

Two years ago, she opened Midwest Oral Health on the ground floor of an apartment building. She lives six floors above the clinic with her husband, dentist Dean Stratman, so she thought of adding a 24-hour clinic.

Dr. Thomas Ringenberg is the dentist who staffs the clinic from 5 pm during the night and normally sees 12 to 14 patients a night. "The majority of patients we see ... haven't been going to the dentist on a regular basis. That's how they handle dentistry", Ringenberg said.

According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last year, about 40% of adults have not seen a dentist.
