Test shows most blank CD-ROMs are reliable

Hamburg  - CD-ROMCustomers cannot go wrong with most blank CDs for sale on store shelves, a test by German magazine Computer Bild showed recently.

Around 41 of 45 tested blank CDs were given a "satisfactory" rating in the test.

The test, results of which will appear in the 9/2008 cover issue, included ordinary CDs, as well as ones designed especially for audio use and ones with extra capacity. They were tested in multiple CD burners to check their storage quality and robustness.

Testers complained mostly about how easily the CDs were scratched and about routine imperfections making it impossible for the CD to be played.

Due to weaknesses in these two categories, no CD was rated "good."

Nonetheless, the test showed relatively few problems when it came to burning CDs. Most blank CDs were not affected by heat and strong lights. (dpa)
