Govt.’s e-filing system in question after CA student hacks into accounts of eminent personalities
The recent two cases of hacking into the income-tax (I-T) return accounts of some eminent personalities by Chartered Accountancy (CA) students has raised concerned over the security of the government's e-filing system.
In the most recent case, the crime branch of Mumbai Police grabbed a CA student, who managed to gained illegal access into I-T returns of industrialist Anil Ambani, Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and cricketer stars M. S. Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.
Earlier in September, a Hyderabad-based CA had hacked into Anil Ambani's online I-T return account.
Subodh Aggarwal, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), said that the institute had already set up an enquiry against the CA student, and would cancel their articleship in case they were found guilty.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Aggarwal added, "This also shows that the government system is so vulnerable. We will take it up with the government."
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police said the Hyderabad-based student was not the only who had hacked into Mr. Ambani's account as the account was also illegally accessed from Noida.
