Air India flight skids off track at Bagdogra; no one hurt
More than a hundred passengers onboard an Air India flight had a narrow shave on Friday when the rear wheel of the plane skidded off the taxi track and got stuck in slush at the Bagdogra airport.
The scaring incident took place when the Delhi-Bagdogra-Delhi flight (AI-879) was taxiing after landing.
As per the airport authorities, "The Air India flight AI 879 on Delhi-Bagdogra-Delhi sector landed at 1.09 pm. While taxing toward Indian Air Force (IAF) area, its right rear wheel skidded off from taxi track."
There were a total of 109 passengers and nine crew members onboard. West Bengal Forest Minister Hiten Burman was among the passengers. No one was luckily hurt and the plane was not damaged in the incident, as the plane was moving at a very slow speed.
K. K. Bhowmick, director of Bagdogra Airport, said that the slush along the runway was caused by the recent rains.
The incident forced the authorities to cancel the return flight to Delhi. The 167 passengers, who had booked seats on the flight to the national capital either took refund or rebooked themselves on another flights.
