67 killed in fresh violence in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, ColomboColombo, Apr. 23 : At least 67 people have been killed in fresh violence in northern Sri Lanka.

A Sri Lanka Defence Ministry statement issued on Wednesday said that among the dead were 52 Liberation Tigers for Tamil Ealam (LTTE) rebels and 15 army soldiers.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udayananayakkara told the media here that the casualties had taken place in in Muhamalai in northern Jaffna, and added that some territory had been recaptured from the LTTE.

He said that the military offensive was launched early on Wednesday morning.

The LTTE is yet to comment on its casualties. (ANI)
