Vietnam arrests, deports Finnish man wanted for murder
Hanoi - Vietnamese police arrested and deported a Finnish man wanted in his home country for murdering his wife, a police officer said Tuesday.
Paul Niklos Bernhard Gagneur, 44, was arrested in a park in Ho Chi Minh City Monday morning after officers of Interpol Vietnam received tips from Finnish police, according to Nguyen Anh Tuan of Interpol Vietnam.
Gagneur was found wandering through the park, having lost his personal papers and spent all his money, according to Vietnamese police.
"We arrested him on a tip from Interpol Finland," Tuan said. "We were informed that he had killed someone in March before fleeing to Vietnam."
Finnish ambassador to Vietnam Pekka Hyvonen confirmed that Vietnamese police had turned Gagneur over to Finnish police later on Monday. He was then taken to Finland on a night flight from Ho Chi Minh City. (dpa)
