Second-generation Nest thermostat boasts design tweaks and new features
Boasting some notable design tweaks and new features, the thinner and snazzier second-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is scheduled to hit the North America markets this month.
According to the details shared by Nest, the company's new home thermostat is 20 percent thinner than its first-generation counterpart, has flashy mirror-finish steel edges, and can work effectively with nearly one-fourth of the low-voltage heating and cooling systems.
Retaining the $249 price-tag of the original Nest thermostat, the new Nest has some new features coming aboard it --- like a much better scheduling function to enable the device to hit the heat or A/C early; and improved compatibility with some of the less traditional heating systems.
In addition, the second-generation high-tech Nest thermostat - the shipments of which will commence in mid-October - also comes with the advantage of using French or Spanish as the display language; and an upgraded app for helping users adjust schedules and temperatures, and track their household energy usage.
Revealing that the new Nest will also boast the updated 3.0 software - which will also be available for previous models - with a new system-match feature that is well-suited to a horde of home systems for making better predictions, Nest's product-marketing chief Maxime Veron told ABC News: "The new hardware expands Nest's compatibility from 75 percent of residential heating and cooling systems to 95 percent."
