MCS organizes 'Beachwatch Big Weekend' for clean-up

MCS organizes 'Beachwatch Big Weekend' for clean-up The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) organized an event called 'Beachwatch Big Weekend', in which beach clean-up was carried out at Berrow on Sunday.

The initiative is to help protect the marine wildlife in the country. At Berrow, about 20 volunteers gathered in the wet weather to take part in the clean up of the beach. The organizers collected several sackfuls of rubbish from the site and sent them away.

Alison Slade, a spokesperson for MCS said, "We were pleased with the turnout considering the poor weather and managed to collect a large quantity of rubbish, ranging from plastic bottles and tin cans to cotton buds and light bulbs."

The clean up was followed by a guided walk around the sand dunes and marsh area lead by nature expert Bob Corns. The Beachwatch Big Weekend has been organized since 18 years and last year's event say thousands of volunteers across the country.

According to the MCS, the amount of garbage being dumped on beaches has doubles over the past 15 years and thus it needs special attention to save the wildlife and natural beauty from pollutants.
