Embattled Cargill Still Facing Lawsuit

Embattled Cargill Still Facing Lawsuit It sees like Minnesota-based Cargill can take a sigh of relief from its association with salmonella outbreak fiasco. It has been reported earlier that due to contaminated ground turkey at an Arkansas plant, production of the plant was halted, but now, it has been given clean chit by the Department of Agriculture.

As of August 11, 107 people in 31 states were reported to have suffered from salmonella infection. Even Cargill had recalled about 36 million pounds of ground turkey Aug. 3, nearly five months after the first illness was reported.

Though, the worries have not died down as the Company is still engulfed in another lawsuit connected to the outbreak. It has been reported that an Oregon family is up against the Company as their 1-year-old daughter fell sick after eating ground turkey meatballs.

It has been claimed that Ruby Jane Lee had suffered from diarrhea and a high fever and was even hospitalized for one week after the infection attacked her.

"Cargill has had a decade of outbreaks and recalls involving Salmonella and E. coli" bacteria”, Bill Marler, a Seattle lawyer specializing in food poisoning cases who represents the Lee family, said. "Cargill's track record is not very positive”.

However, Cargill Spokesman Mike Martin has assured that the Company has improved its procedures to ensure public health and safety.
