Mt. Etna volcano erupts

Mt. Etna, which is one of the most famous volcanoes in Italy, has erupted spreading concerns that ash could affect air transport in the area.

Mt. Etna, which is situated on the southern Italian island of Sicily, experienced a number of eruptive episodes over the last 2 weeks. The volcanic activity started on Saturday morning and continued until Sunday, revealed the Italian Institute of Volcanology.

Lava fountains went as high as 500 metres but no casualties or damage to property have been reported. It is believed to be one of the most active volcanoes in the world and has erupted many times during the decade endangering villages surrounding the crater.
