Police officials seized a plastic bag with explosive materials from a private bus going to Payyannur from Kozhikode at Edakkad, about 15 km from Kannur this morning.

Around 300 detonators and 96 metres of fuse wire were found during the raid following a warning over a phone call to Edakkad police, Edakkad Sub Inspector of Police Sunil Kumar said.

The explosives were stacked inside the plastic bag that was kept under the back seat of the bus.

But, no one was taken into detention, police added.

Unprecedented security arrangements were being made in the region considering two public functions planned to be kicked off by Vice President M Hamid Ansari here tomorrow.

Approximately 1,500 police officers are being deployed in the district under eight Superindent of Police who been assigned the task of maintaining the security arrangements during the VVIP's programmes.

The entrance to the site of the functions has been limited to invited guest only, police added. (With Inputs from Agencies)
