APDM collects resignation of 236 lawmakers
Islamabad, Sep 30 : The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has collected as many as 84 resignations from the National Assembly members and 152 from the members of provincial assemblies till now.
The APDM would furnish these resignations to the Speakers of the national and provincial assemblies respectively on October 2, as decided by the alliance.
Convenor of the alliance’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) Raja Zafarul Haq announced it in a press conference here.
The APDM held a marathon session to hammer out the remaining issues regarding the alliance’s decision to quit the assemblies in protest against Musharraf’s re-election in uniform.
The APDM leaders also reaffirmed their resolve to launch a countrywide protest from October 2. They vowed to step up their movement with a complete shut down on October 6.
Zafarul Haq said that the APDM has, so far received 61 resignations of MMA legislators and 59 of PML-N lawmakers.
"As many as 25 resignations of Jamaat-i-Islami from the National Assembly, 23 from NWFP, seven form Punjab, four from Sindh and one from the Balochistan assemblies have been received," he told reporters.
He said that JUI-F has handed over 32 resignations from the National Assembly, 17 from Balochistan and four from Sindh assemblies to the APDM.
He said MMA MPAs from Frontier province have not handed over their resignations, because it would be dissolved.
Haq announced that the APDM would hold a countrywide protest on October 2. The protest will also be held at the district headquarters and black day would be observed.
He strongly condemned the brutal baton charge by police and violence against the journalists, lawyers and members of civil society in front of the Supreme Court, The Nation reported.
Scores of journalists, lawyers and members of civil society were injured. He said that police thrashed the newsmen covering scrutiny of the nomination papers of the presidential candidates in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan. (With inputs from ANI)
