2000 junior doctors in Orissa likely to go on strike from Wednesday
Bhubaneshwar, Mar 17: Over 2,000 junior doctors in state-run hospitals in Orissa are going on strike from Wednesday to press their demands by the Government of Orissa.
Members of the Orissa Medical Service Association, the leading organisation of doctors in the state and at least 2,156 doctors had submitted resignation notices to the government.
A delegation of the association met Chief Minister Naveen Pantaik on Saturday night to apprise him of the problems they have been facing.
"We apprised him about the charter of 19 demands, including junior class one status for doctors at the entry level with a basic salary of Rs 12,000 and time-bound promotion," said an association member.
He added, "The chief minister refused to fulfil our demands. That is why we have decided to stop doing work across the state from Wednesday as per our earlier announcement," he said. (ANI)
