Eight in ten believe web access is a fundamental right
According to a survey, eight out of ten people in the world believe that internet access is a fundamental right and all humans should have been provided with web service. The survey was done on approximately 27,000 people across 26 countries. This was conducted by an organization on behalf of the British Broadcasting Corporation of World Service.
The survey report suggests that more than 87% of the internet users believe that internet access should be a basic human right. While around 70% of the non-internet users feel the same.
In countries like Japan, Mexico and Russia, almost 75% of the people, expressed that internet has become a necessary part of their lives and it will be a tough ask for them to live without web access. At the same time 90% of the respondents from Turkey believe that web access is a fundament right for the citizens.
However, secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), told BBC News, that internet being the most powerful potential source of enlightenment, has become an unavoidable part of human being. Now the Government should regard web access as a basic necessity like roads, waste and water.
