Aviation Industry finally recovering
Aviation minister Praful Patel can finally have a sigh of respite. The Indian aviation industry has finally shown some signs of revival after some sort of economic recovery. Almost on the verge of a close down, during the times of recession, there has been a massive growth in the last 2 months.
The growth figures of the last 2 months being a record breaking 33% in December and a 23% in January. Airlines are now once again looking at expanding their workforce and their fleet.
The passenger numbers started increasing from the month of July last year. The total number of passengers in the last 6 months 2009 increased as the domestic fliers increased to a whopping 445 lakh for the year of 2009, which is 8% higher than the figures of 2008, and more significantly last years negative growth of 5% was also reversed.
On one hand, the big airlines Air India, Indian Airlines and Kingfisher have been struggling with their financial health, whereas on the other the Low Cost Carriers (LCC) have been doing well. IndiGO, the biggest LCC and Spicejet are both looking to hire people and increase their size of fleet. The fleet size for Spicejet will rise from 19-25 and IndiGO will hire about 1000 people.
