Researchers find lack of antibody antiPC as reason for StrokeIt is believed that the cause of a stroke could be linked to the lower level of antibody in immune system according to a Swedish study. Researchers at the Karolinska Institute threw light upon the way for the development of a new vaccine which might be an aid to muster the body's own defense against arteriosclerosis and stroke.

Arteriosclerosis or the hardening of arteries or heart stroke can be a reason which happens when there is a lack in antibody – antiPC. It safeguards the body against the blood clots or thrombosis and the heart attacks.

The researchers performed a comparative study which involved 227 individuals who had suffered stroke over a 13-year period with 445 sex and age-matched controls. After regulating the other factors of stroke such as age, cholesterol levels, body mass index (BMI) and smoking habits, the researchers found that low levels of anti-PC (less than 30%) were linked to a higher risk of stroke. In case of women, the chances of having a stroke increased three fold.

Scientists are still looking out for ways where immunological treatment for heart failure and arteriosclerosis is possible. It’s an attempt where the vaccine can be used to trigger the body immunity level.
