The railways have constituted a fast-track committee to look into the demands of the motormen. The name of the committee members will be declared in three days, Railway Board officials told a delegation of motormen in New Delhi on Thursday.

“The committee members will meet motormen from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai before coming out with a solution for the issues raised by us,” said a motorman, requesting anonymity. The fast-track committee would then meet motormen’s associations and take consensus on possible solutions.

More than 1,000 motormen from Central and Western Railway withdrew their threat of going on mass leave on January 26 after general managers of both the divisions and the Railway Board promised to resolve their problems.

“We will go on indefinite hunger strike from May 1 if our demands are not met,” said J. Nimsudkar, member, Joint Action Forum, comprising motormen from CR and WR.
