London, Jan 9: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is taking a major gamble by relying too heavily on striker Wayne Rooney.

Ferguson has reiterated that he will not buy another striker in the transfer window, but admitted that his decision could rebound on Man U as they chase a fourth successive title.

When asked if he feared the situation could turn round and haunt him, Ferguson said: “Yes, that is a possibility.”

“We don''t have great options if Rooney is injured, in the sense we don''t have top quality like Ronaldo, who could play anywhere. But, still, we''re not too bad,” he added.

The 68-year-old further dismissed certain media reports, which suggested that United''s crippling debts prevented him from dipping into the transfer market to strengthen his squad.

“I have no concerns about the financial situation. If I wanted to buy I could get the money,” Ferguson said.

He instead said that he cannot see the quality- or value for money - available in the current market, so expects Rooney along with Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov to carry the weight of expectations. (ANI)
