A-listers at Ambani’s party for Tendulkar

Bollywood A-listers joined industrial and political honchos in raising a toast to India’s cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar at a glitzy party hosted by Mukesh and Nita Ambani at their Cuffe Parade residence, Sea Wind, on Sunday.

With about 300 people on the guest list, celebrations spilled over to include Team India topping the Test rankings.

Shah Rukh Khan, with wife Gauri, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders Juhi Chawla, with husband Jai Mehta, were present, along with Preity Zinta, co-owner of Kings XI Punjab.

Guests included Aamir Khan and wife Kiran, producer Vinod Chopra, director Rajkumar Hirani, director Farah Khan, actors Priyanka Chopra and Anil Kapoor and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel.

“Patriotism was high, there was a strong feeling of solidarity. One was so proud of amcha mulga Sachin Tendulkar,” said Raveena Tandon.

The open-air bash, with an extensive vegetarian menu, had Nita showcasing an audio-visual presentation on the the Tendulkar’s journey starting as a 16-year-old. Sunil Gavaskar, coach R. Achrekar and the boys in blue cheered the many milestones on his two-decade long career.

Both Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh then took to the stage, joining in performances by Sameera Reddy, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty. Adding a touch of gold to the evening was Asha Bhosle, singing ‘In aakhon ki masti ke’.

“It was a memorable, moving evening dedicated to the man we all admire,” said Hirani.
