“Dance for Peace” staged in Imphal

 “Dance for Peace” staged in ImphalImphal, Nov. 15 : With militancy affecting almost every sphere of life in Manipur, the urge to see peace and harmony returning to the place in on everyone’s mind.

The feeling was reflected here recently when a contemporary dance show “Dance for peace” by Manipuri choreographer and art Director NK Surjit was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in Imphal.

The objective was to convey the message of everyone’s wish for restoration of peace and harmony in the State.

Surjit developed the new dance form. The dance show also served as a platform to encourage aspiring dancers.

Six male and five female dancers along with three child artists performed at the show.

“Amidst conflict in Manipur, I initiated the artists and dancers of the state so that through this we can provide relief and peace of mind and divert their attention to these form of entertainment,” said N. K. Surjit (Bonbon), Art Director, Manipur.

“It will create a new awareness among the people of Manipur especially among the youth that dance is a mirror of our feeling through our body movements. Instead of violence we can create a masterpiece through dancing. Dance is a universal language, which everybody understands. It cuts across the barriers of caste, creed, race and gender. It is a very beautiful and a powerful medium,” said Esther Shimray, an artiste.

Dance for peace attracted a large number of people including theatre and dance personalities. (ANI)
