Committee to facilitate Delhi Metro extension to FaridabadNew Delhi, Nov 11 : A special committee will be set up to facilitate the extension of Delhi Metro into the satellite town of Faridabad, state Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Wednesday.

"It has been decided to constitute a committee headed by the secretary of the urban development ministry to facilitate the Delhi Metro line up to Faridabad and Bahadurgarh in Haryana," Dikshit said.

Chief Secretary of Delhi Rakesh Mehta and Chief Secretary of Haryana Urvashi Gulati will also be members of the committee.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, the detailed project report for the metro line extension till Faridabad has already been prepared.

"The metro line from the Badarpur border in Delhi to Faridabad will be approximately 13.88 km in length. From Mundka - which will be in itself an extension from Inderlok in metro's phase two construction - to Bahadurgarh, the distance will be 11.18 km," a DMRC official said.

The second phase of DMRC construction is expected to be completed by October next year.

After a gap of four years, the DMRC announced a 36 percent hike in its fares Wednesday. On an average, over 850,000 people commute daily by Delhi Metro. (IANS)
