No need to starve, just add tomatoes to your diet to loss weight
Adding tomatoes to diet will not only help you in reducing weight, but it will also satiate your hunger. Recent study showed that tomato can help in shedding extra pounds.
It is believed that lycopene that gives tomato its red colour has the ability to lower the levels of hunger hormones such as ghrelin hence leading to satisfaction of a person’s hunger even in lower quantities.
In the recent study, research team from the Reading University, Berkshire, England, UK, studied the effect of bread enriched with different vegetables on feeling of fullness in 17 normal weight women aged 18 to 35.
Women enrolled in the study were given cream cheese sandwiches made with white bread enriched with either carrots or tomatoes. Study subject were asked to record their feeling of fullness after consuming these sandwiches. It was found that women felt most satiated after consuming tomato sandwich.
Julie Lovegrove, the lead author of the study, said, “It was a small study, and we can't yet say what the crucial tomato ingredient is, but the results were statistically significant.”
Research team believes that further research needs to be carried out. However increased intake of tomato can be a wise step as tomatoes is known for various health benefits and in decreasing risk of various diseases.
