Saina crashes out of Japan Open
Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal’s campaign has came to an end in the Japan Open Super Series in Tokyo as she went down to Yanjiao Jiang of China in the first round match on Wednesday.
She was ousted by the world no. 10 Chinese 15-21, 23-21, 14-21 in the women’s singles event in just 53 minutes. She had returned into action after a long break of one month.
In men’s singles event, India’s P Kashyap defeated Japan's Takuma Ueda in a three setter match 21-17, 12-21, 21-11 in 51 minutes to advance into the pre-quarterfinals.
India’s Jwala Gutta and V Diju, seeded seventh, also crashed out after they lost to Thai pair of Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkam 18-21, 12-21 in the mixed doubles event.
More disappointment came for Indian fans later in the day, when Jwala and Ashwini Ponnappa also went down to seventh seeded Japanese duo of Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna 15-21, 21-19, 18-21 in the women’s doubles event.
In men’s doubles, Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas were thrashes by Korean pair of Sung Hyun Ko and Yi Goo Kwon 12-21, 16-21 in just 30 minutes.
