UK children start their day with breakfast of biscuits, crisps sometimes only cigarette
Healthy breakfast is deemed necessary for proper growth and health of children. All medical experts recommend that parents should provide nutritious and wholesome breakfast to children. But recent study revealed that British children start their day with junk food.
According to a survey, 15 percent of the children start their day with crisps, sweets and fizzy drinks for breakfast. Children spend around £646 million on buying biscuits, cake and meat snacks on their way to school.
Half a million children start their day with biscuits as their breakfast. 160,000 have a bag of crisps and more than 100,000 just have a fizzy drink as their breakfast.
A shocking fact was also revealed during the survey that one in every class of 14-year-olds go to school on a cigarette.
Public health nutritionist, Kathy Cowbrough, who was involved with the government's Sure Start Centres, said that absence of the healthy breakfast means shortage of nutrients and energy which often leads to lack of attention during valuable lessons at school.
Absence of the energetic breakfast makes children tired, irritable and less able to concentrate in the morning hence making them uncooperative with their parents.
