Centre provides additional paramilitary forces to Maharashtra
New Delhi, Feb 12 : The Centre today rushed additional central paramilitary forces to Maharashtra in the wake of violence spreading to new areas in the State following the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's (MNS) campaign against north Indians.
"The Home Ministry is providing additional Central forces to the State Government, as requested by them," a Home Ministry release said.
Rapid Action Force (RAF) units are already positioned in Mumbai.
The release further said that the ministry is in "close and continuous touch" with the authorities in Maharashtra.
"The State Government has been advised to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that peace is maintained all over the State and the activities of miscreants are effectively checked," the release said.
Meanwhile, violence has spread to Nashik where MNS activists attacked vendors belonging to north India. After this incident 25 MNS activists were rounded up.
Pune, Aurangabad, Nanded, Latur and Amravati also witnessed trouble. (ANI)
