Poojashree clinches $10,000 ITF title
India's Poojashree Venkatesh has upset the top seeded Emily Webley-Smith of Britain 7-6(8), 6-2 in the rain interrupted final match to clinch her maiden title of $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament at the DLTA complex New Delhi on Friday.
The 19-year-old Mysore girl had also won the doubles title with Delhi girl Sanaa Bhambri and she continued her good form in the singles also to win the final match which was delayed for four hours due to rain.
Poojashree was broke down in the very first game of the match as she went down 1-3 in the first set but she held her nerves and broke her opponent in the eighth game to force a tie-break.
In the tie-breaker also, Poojashree was down 0-3 but she managed to win the first set after saving three set-points. Poojashree did not give any chance to her opponent in the second set as she raced away with the set and match.
Poojashree won an amount of US $1568 with the title while Smith has to satisfy with US 980$ and runner-up trophy.
