MJ’s ‘oxygen chamber’ found
London, Aug 10 : The infamous oxygen chamber that Michael Jackson used to lie in has been found in a storage department in San Diego, California.
As per rumours, the singer would lie in the 60,000-pound machine in the hope of halting the ravages of time and living to 150.
The Sechrist 2500B hyperbaric oxygen chamber allows one to breathe 100 percent pure oxygen while normal air has less than 21 percent.
The treatment lasts up to two hours and leaves the patients leaving euphoric.
Brotman Memorial Hospital in Culver City, California, bought the chamber in 1985 to treat burns victims.
Jacko was treated there in 1984 for burns he suffered filming a Pepsi ad.
His subsequent 900,000-dollar donation allowed the unit to buy the device.
He was photographed using it there in 1986 and it caused a sensation when a US magazine quoted him as saying: "I plan to get one immediately. If I treat my body properly I'll live to at least 150."
However, it was 1994 before Jackson bought the Sechrist off the hospital.
It eventually found its way to another California medical centre, who gave it to current owners Oxyheal.
The firm makes giant chambers that can hold 23 people.
"Michael wouldn't have slept in the chamber all night as it would have caused oxygen toxicity and he'd have died. Instead he probably used it for one or two hours at a time," the Mirror quoted company chief Ted Gurnee as saying.
"We conducted a study and found it helps promote the growth of older cells, effectively slowing down the ageing process. So maybe Michael was right," he added. (ANI)
