Tokyo stocks rise on positive economic figures
Tokyo - Shares in Tokyo rose on Monday due to positive economic indicators in Japan and the US.
The Nikkei 225 Stock Average was up 112.17 points or 1.08 per cent to close at 10,524.26, a 10-month high.
The broader-based Topix index rose 12.48 points or 1.3 per cent to close at 969.24.
Among the data boosting stocks were falling US unemployment, rising machinery orders in Japan and a weakening of the yen.
On the currency markets at noon (0300 GMT), the dollar traded at 97.28-33 yen, up from Friday's 5 pm quote of 95.38-39 yen.
The euro traded at 1.4201-06 dollars, down from Friday's 5 pm quote of 1.4355-56 dollars.
The euro traded at 138.20-25 yen, up from Friday's close of 136.92-96 yen. (dpa)
