Bargain hunting sends Tokyo stocksTokyo  - Tokyo stocks closed stronger Thursday as investors went looking for bargains and bought up stocks a day after Japan's two major indices fell 1 per cent.

Stock values were also helped by positive earnings reports, and commodities issues gained as metals prices rose.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 135.66 points, or 1.32 per cent, to close at 10,388.09 while the broader-based Topix index was up 7.93 points, or 0.84 per cent, at 957.51.

On currency markets at noon (0300 GMT), the dollar traded at 95.01-06 yen, up from Wednesday's 5 pm quote of 95.00-03 yen.

The euro traded at 1.4396-1.4401 dollars, from late Wednesday's quote of 1.4400-03 dollars, and at 136.80-85 yen, from 136.83-87 yen. (dpa)
